Mark Street Hub Trail Improvements
Mark Street Hub Trail Improvements
City staff are proposing improvements to the John Rowswell Hub Trail (JRHT) along Mark Street, from Lake Street to the Algoma University/Anna McCrea Public School entrance.
The proposed Mark Street JRHT design includes an asphalt multi-use pathway along the north side of the street from Lake Street to Hugill, replacing the existing concrete sidewalk. The design also includes an optional extension of the asphalt multi-use pathway from Hugill Street to the Algoma University/Anna McCrea Public School entrance. A goal of this project is to have minimal impact on the existing trees that line the street. As such the design includes features that will allow for the trees to remain intact.

Along most of its route, the JRHT is characterized by an approximately 3 metre wide, asphalt path. However, Hub Trail users along Mark Street only had a sidewalk (or the road for cyclists). In 2021, Engineering staff commenced the reconstruction of Mark Street, from Churchill Boulevard to Lake Street. As part of that project, the sidewalk on the north side of Mark Street was replaced with an asphalt multi-use path. Staff is now recommending the sidewalk, from Lake Street to the Algoma University entrance also be replaced with a multi-use path to close the remainder of the Mark Street gap.
